Episode 34: Team Building with Tyler Hayden
Tyler Hayden is a team designer; he tells us about his journey from recreation professional to corporate speaker, explains why he calls himself a “team designer”, what components are involved in the formalizing of team building and where the inspiration for one his top Patchwork resources came from.
“We don’t put astronauts on the moon, but we help create the astronauts…”
Tyler explains how he designs activities based on the type of learners in his groups, gives tips on how to make your first 5 minutes of a session set the tone for the entire workshop, and talks about how to deal with dysfunctional teams.
Tyler puts Curt on a pedestal and talks about hiring the right people, he also tells us his go-to team building activity – one of them being Teambuilding 20 and the other one is mindfield.
He explains why it’s important to diversify your toolkit, how he keeps the energy flowing during a workshop, and why he talks to potential users about aggregate time.
