Episode 38: The Parent Experience with Mat Whynott
Mat Whynott shares how his perspective shifted once he went from camp staff to camp parent. We find out a little bit about the Canadian political system, what Mat’s learned from being a politician, secret shoppers, what camp has meant to Mat & the various roles he’s played at camp over the years.
When his child went to camp it gave Mat a whole new perspective on the camp experience, he stopped judging “needy parents” and became one himself. He then determined that a parent’s experience, from the moment they decide to send their kid to camp to the very end – and beyond, has to be intentional and he set out to design his program around that thought.
Mat discusses managing expectations, encouraging staff to look at everything from a parent’s perspective, his cabin refresh campaign, tips for the preseason, arrival at camp, customer service on opening day, communicating with parents during sessions, and more!
Matt also recommends Text Magic, that he to send out bulk texts when needed.
